The Ancient Wonders
Just for clarification, there are still only Seven Wonders of the world, regardless of what the White House says. Believe me, I looked high and low, and I can find nothing that supports the president’s claim. If anyone can provide any solid proof of two more “Wonders” I really would appreciate some information on those previously unknown wonders. I do not know who or what is responsible for deciding what qualifies as a wonder, but I am pretty sure it is not a poll on USA Today.
As humans, we are constantly awed by the world around us. From breathtaking natural landscapes to magnificent architectural marvels, there are wonders that defy logic and inspire us to dream bigger. Among these wonders, the Ancient Seven Wonders of the World hold a special place in our hearts. These extraordinary feats of engineering and artistic mastery have captured the imagination of people for centuries.
Only one of these wonders still stands today, and it is none other than the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt. Built around 2560 BCE, this colossal structure remains a testament to the ingenuity and skill of the ancient Egyptians. Its perfectly aligned sides and incredible height make it a sight to behold, as it stands proudly against the backdrop of the desert.
The ancient wonders include in no particular order:
- The Great Pyramid of Giza
- The Hanging Gardens of Babylon
- The Statue of Zeus at Olympia
- The Temple of Artemis at Ephesus,
- The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus,
- The Colossus of Rhodes,
- And the Lighthouse of Alexandria.
Although these wonders have long been lost to time, their stories continue to captivate us, as we imagine the grandeur and beauty that once graced the ancient world.
The New Seven Wonders
While the Ancient Seven Wonders hold a special place in history, we must not forget the incredible wonders that exist in our modern world. In 2007, a new list of Seven Wonders of the World was created through a global poll, allowing people from around the world to cast their votes and choose the most awe-inspiring sights of our time.
The new wonders include the Great Wall of China, Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro, Machu Picchu in Peru, Petra in Jordan, the Colosseum in Rome, Chichen Itza in Mexico, and the Taj Mahal in India. Each of these wonders represents a unique aspect of human creativity and the ability to create lasting legacies.
Standing atop the Great Wall of China, one can’t help but marvel at the sheer magnitude of this ancient fortification. Stretching over 21,000 miles, it is a testament to the perseverance and determination of the Chinese people throughout history. Meanwhile, the Taj Mahal stands as a symbol of love and devotion, with its stunning white marble architecture and intricate detailing.
